Monograph Display

Once a user selects a drug by clicking on a drug name or using the field selection function on the search results page, the drug monograph will be displayed. In the top left corner of the screen, the monograph title and database name will be displayed as a point of reference.

Navigating a Monograph

Once in the monograph, the user has three ways to navigate the content. The first method is to use the "Navigation Tree" displayed on the left side of the screen. This box provides a table of contents view of the available sections of the drug monograph. To jump to a particular section, click on the desired section. Sections that have a → sign next to them have sub-sections that allow the user to jump to more specific areas of content. To expose all of the sub-sections at once, click the "Expand All" link at the top right of the Navigation Tree box.

The second navigation method is "Jump to Section,” which is located in the top right area of the monograph display. Click on this box and an alphabetical list of all sections and sub-sections is displayed in a drop-down menu. To jump to a particular section, click on the desired field from the drop-down list.

Lastly, the drug monograph can be viewed by scrolling through the entire document using the standard browser scroll bars located on the left side of the monograph window.

Viewing Content Within Collapsible Sections

In several sections throughout the drug monograph, collapsible sections are used to provide the user with the ability to hide or display content. This allows the user to see additional detail when appropriate, but hide data that the user doesn't want to view. To open or close a collapsible section, simply click on the blue arrow to change the arrow's direction. Content will be hidden or displayed as appropriate.

Accessing the Product List Tab, Patient Education Leaflets

In addition to the monograph information, additional content is available via the tabs across the top of the monograph window. Clicking on these tabs will give users access to (1) product information for the drug, (2) adult patient education materials, and (3) pediatric patient education materials.

The Product List Tab

From a monograph, clicking on the Product List tab displays a list of products with additional details including: generic name, brand name, strength, route, and availability.

To view an image and additional detail about a particular product, click on the “See More” button. To enlarge the image and see specific imprint details, expand the section by clicking on the plus sign.

Note: To access the drug identification tool for identifying unknown medications, click on the "Drug I.D." button in the blue Tool Bar.

To return to the monograph information, simply click on the "Monograph" tab at the top of the content panel.

The Adult and Pediatric Leaflets Tabs

From the monograph, clicking on the patient education tabs will display the patient education document (adult or pediatric) for that drug. This document can be navigated using the same three methods used to navigate a drug monograph: (1) the left panel Navigation Tree; (2) the "Jump to Section" drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the content panel; or (3) scrolling the document using the right-side scroll bars.

The patient education leaflets are written at a consumer level and can be viewed in English and Spanish, or in additional languages, if included with your subscription. To view the document in a different language , click on the "Switch Language" drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the content panel. Available languages will be displayed using this menu.

To print the document, click on the "Print" link in the upper right corner of the content window and a list of the available printers to which your computer is connected will be displayed.

Note: Patient education content is intended for use by healthcare providers to assist in their education and counseling of patients and non-professional caregivers. Content is intended to supplement but not substitute for or replace professional verbal counseling or any other information provided by physicians, nurses, pharmacists, or other healthcare professionals. Content is not intended to be a sole or primary source for healthcare professionals to use in familiarizing themselves with important information about medications and conditions.
